As promised, here is an overview of our trip through Guatemala, and next week, I will show you Costa Rica with San Francisco the week after. They have to be that stretched out because it takes me about a week, in between helping clients, to create each video. It may not be of a professional standard but I hope it gives you a feeling for the country with all its splendid colours. … [Read more...] about Our trip through Guatemala

San Francisco
At the end of our holiday in Guatemala and Costa Rica, we flew to San Francisco for two days. A client, Yvonne, showed us around and we had a wonderful day exploring the city inside and outside in the hills. We were very lucky that our hotel upgraded our double room to a suite on the top floor so we had a separate lounge, bedroom and two bathrooms. We felt very spoilt in all ways. I fell in love with San Francisco and would love to return sometime. Thank you so much to Yvonne for her incredible kindness. … [Read more...] about San Francisco
Costa Rica – sticky hot, beautiful & even more onions
This is a summary in photos of our 7-day trip around Costa Rica. I will make a video later which will be much more comprehensive. Costa Rica is very different to Guatemala and the style of trip was more about the places than the people, while Guatemala was about the people and how they lived. We stayed in lovely places and had a great experience. Wherever we went the people were hospitable and kind. Much of the country reminds me of New Zealand with the focus on nature and the environment. We are now off to San Francisco for two days and then back home to New Zealand. Oh and by the way, my gut has been very peaceful and I have avoided the numerous meals littered with onions. It has been tricky at times to get the message across even with my laminated card but somehow I got there. Let's see if I manage as well in San Francisco. … [Read more...] about Costa Rica – sticky hot, beautiful & even more onions
Guatemala – bright, peaceful and lots of onions
I have just finished a tour of Guatemala and have just arrived in Costa Rica for another tour. As the title says, Guatemala is full of colour with peaceful, laid back people and a cuisine that is riddled with garlic and onions - my two biggest triggers. I waved my laminated card which stated my aversion to those two food items in every restaurant we visited and it worked but I ended up with bland food. But, if a choice is to be made between bland food and a peaceful gut or tasty food and a painful, bloated gut, then I will choose the former every time. Here are some photos to help you get a feel for the country. They are a bit out of order but the captions explain what they are. … [Read more...] about Guatemala – bright, peaceful and lots of onions
How to Break Bad Habits
In This Article, I gave you tips on how to create new good habits but now I want to address what is happening in the brain when habits are formed and broken and how to eliminate those bad habits forever. The Sleep Game Occasionally, I have trouble sleeping. The key is to focus my mind on something other than my random thoughts. Our minds are powerful, independent creatures but we can control them with effort, consistency and determination. This is what I try if I wake in the night and can’t get back to sleep. I pick a topic like countries in the world or girl’s names – anything with a list – then I go through the alphabet and mentally say one country for each letter. So, Austria, Botswana, Canada, Denmark etc. Or I might decide to say two for each letter if the list has many possibilities. When I get stuck and can’t think of one, I try for a bit but then move on. The idea is to engross my mind in what it is doing so those unwanted thoughts don’t dominate. I have been doing this … [Read more...] about How to Break Bad Habits
