Several of my clients who live busy lives can’t eliminate the last of their IBS symptoms no matter how accurately they implement the low Fodmap diet. So, we have to sort their lifestyle. Just because you have conquered the diet does not mean that you can sit back on your laurels and leave everything else the same. Far from it. [Tweet "Getting your IBS symptoms under control requires a multi-pronged attack."] Ariana, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, wrote a book called Thrive on her personal experience of burning out. She woke up on her study floor in a pool of blood. She had passed out from exhaustion and hit her head on the edge of the desk. Ariana is a particularly driven woman but many other men and women also spend their lives in a whirlpool of activity that threatens their health and their ability to focus and make rational decisions. The level of permanent stress in the body from having no real downtime increases your chance of stroke, heart … [Read more...] about The Effects of Lifestyle on IBS

When thoughts turn to dinner, I either ask my husband what he wants or I consult my taste buds. They never lie. Decision made, I walk down to the shops and purchase what I need. Then I loop down to the beach and walk along the sand and back home. The other day, even though it is the middle of summer and we have hit some seriously hot weather, for some reason my taste buds told me meatloaf. They also told me curry so smarty pants here combined the two and came up with this recipe - curry meatloaf. Can a Psychologist Help IBS?
IBS is affected by a brain-gut disturbance so if the therapy takes this direction and is conducted by a therapist experienced in IBS, then considerable benefit can be gained from this approach. A new meta-analysis, published online on Dec. 22, 2015 by the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology shows that the effect of efficient psychotherapy can positively affect symptoms for up to a year after the therapy has ended. This was the conclusion from a study analysis of 41 different trials containing a total of approximately 2,200 people. These studies included cognitive therapies, relaxation and hypnosis and all were as effective as each other. Interestingly the number of sessions also didn’t significantly affect the results. It also didn’t matter if these treatments were in person or online. These therapies work by altering the negative thought and/or emotional patterns that are associated with IBS. This can help people to accept they have a problem and it also gives them … [Read more...] about Can a Psychologist Help IBS?
Chicken and Leek Quiche – Low Fodmap & Gluten-Free
I made this quiche last night with leftover cooked chicken but forgot to photograph it. However, above, you can see a slice I had for my lunch today - not as pretty as the whole quiche but just as delicious. This was born out me looking in the fridge and wondering what to make for dinner. I had the cooked chicken, a leek and we always have tomatoes, eggs and cheese so a chicken and leek quiche with tomato and cheese was created. It was a resounding success and a recipe I would make again. Banana Cake – Low Fodmap and Gluten-Free
Adriano nagged me for a couple of weeks about making a banana cake, which is very odd because he doesn't have a sweet tooth. But he didn't let up and so I eventually caved and made it. The only problem with that is then I need to eat it too because who can resist a banana cake in the house without devouring it! The cake is already finished and I am a kilo heavier while he burns off the calories on his bike in about five minutes. It would take me an hour at my speed. Anyway, the cake was moist and very moreish as you can imagine, so it was well worth making. 5.0 from 2 reviews Banana Cake - Low Fodmap and Gluten-Free Print Author: Suzanne Perazzini Ingredients 125 gms/4.4oz softened butter 1 cup caster sugar ¼ cup brown sugar 3 eggs 2 cups gluten-free flour 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp cinnamon ¾ cup lactose-free yogurt 1 cup mashed banana Method Heat oven to 180°C/350°F.
