The Video Through my low Fodmap coaching practice, I see many of the same health issues in people who have been diagnosed with IBS - like reflux, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, depression. Watch my video for more information on these connections. Low Fodmap Trifle I had an urge to make something sweet. The urge came out of the blue and could only be appeased by making something yummy and pretty. My grandmother used to make a trifle when we visited for dinner and my mother always makes a scrummy trifle for Christmas day. It is definitely one of my favourite desserts. Instead of sponge I used a biscuit base which could use any gluten-free plain biscuits. If you could find a lactose-free custard, you could buy it instead of making it and that would make this a quick, very simple dessert. Low Fodmap Trifle Print Author: Suzanne Perazzini Serves: 4 Ingredients For the base 8 gluten-free biscuits like these 50gms/1.8oz butter For the custard 400mls/13.5oz … [Read more...] about IBS and Other Health Issues plus Low Fodmap Trifle

I Need Your Advice please… plus Stuffed Peppers
Okay, okay, I’m getting emails from people about my cliff-hanger. Sorry about that. It was kind of fun but also kind of serious. I got up this morning fired up to expand on this idea I mentioned and ready to tell you all about it. But I didn’t know how to explain it without all the pieces worked out. And then it occurred to me – what if I had this all wrong? Who was I to assume that I know what you want? So I have decided to make sure that I am about to give you what you want. I now have a solution to this dilemma but first I want to tell you a story that haunts me. The Lonely Man on the Park Bench When Dario was young, we used to live in a different house just 100 metres along from the beach and most days in summer we went for a swim after his home-schooling lessons were over. One day, I was sitting on a bench up on the grass verge above the beach while Dario played below in the sand, and an old man came and sat down beside me. We got talking and he had gone for a walk … [Read more...] about I Need Your Advice please… plus Stuffed Peppers
The Low Fodmap Diet is not a Weight Loss Program
People can confuse the low Fodmap diet with a weight loss or gain program. The low Fodmap diet is for eliminating irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, not for losing or gaining weight. In fact, it would be counterproductive to use it in that way. To learn more about this, watch my video. The Video Cranberry and Almond Dark Christmas It's New Year's day here and I thought something festive was in order. I found a white Christmas recipe on Hotly Spiced, a wonderful blog which you must have a look at. Charlie tells us about her entertaining family and cooks great recipes. She is an accomplished writer and keeps you on the edge of your seat with her family stories. Anyway, she made the classic white Christmas recipe with her own twist and I have adapted it to be more low Fodmap. However, this is just for special occasions and should be consumed in small amounts by those with irritable bowel syndrome. I think I will be eating only 1/2 of one of these at a time. There is no added … [Read more...] about The Low Fodmap Diet is not a Weight Loss Program
A Low Fodmap Christmas Day
Christmas has come and gone, and what a fabulous day it was! We gathered together with the extended family and ate outside under the sun. What could be better for a Christmas celebration. In fact, we had two celebrations because my sister, Margot, her husband, Paul and daughter, Dana went to New York to celebrate Dana's 21st birthday so we had a pre-Christmas celebration a few days before Christmas together with them, and then we had Christmas day with the rest of the family. For Margot's dinner, I made a chicken, feta & brown rice salad which supplied me with all food groups and I was able to eat that with some turkey and ham. On Christmas day I took a tuna mousse and a mixed pasta salad so I was all set there as well. That's how you get around any get-together - you supply your own food and share it with everyone. On both occasions, I had a small glass of champagne and then went straight onto water. No tummy troubles and so I was able to enjoy the meals like everyone … [Read more...] about A Low Fodmap Christmas Day

Fibre on the Low Fodmap Diet and Chicken Parmesan
The Video The Transcript How much Fibre is the right amount? Fibre is a big question when on the low Fodmap diet because fibre is a gut irritant but we need it for “normal” bowel function. Normal bowel function, you may say, what is that? Those with IBS have no clue what is normal because our toilet visits are a daily surprise. If this is all a mystery to you, go check out the Bristol stool chart. https://www.continence.org.au/pages/bristol-stool-chart.html Numbers 3-4 are normal. You can do a nice little comparison there and see where you sit on the chart. Now, we need fibre to achieve this ideal, in fact 25-30 grams is the recommended fibre intake for the general population, and we should apparently try to adhere to that. Many of us will burst into tears when we hear this because we get nowhere near that before our guts rebel and create a whole raft of IBS symptoms. As I keep saying, we are all individual and that fine line before we tip over into that unpleasant place is … [Read more...] about Fibre on the Low Fodmap Diet and Chicken Parmesan
