Not a lot is known about irritable bowel syndrome yet, and what they do know seems to be conjecture. In fact, my clients often tell me that they have been told by a doctor that they have IBS and that they can't help them. They get sent away either with band-aid medicine or nothing. However, some of the conjecture does seem to be pretty much on point from everything I have learned from speaking to hundreds of people with IBS, and that concerns the causes or triggers of IBS. There seems to be a co-relation between the onset or worsening of IBS symptoms and a few different triggers. I have discussed these in the video. If you suffer from IBS, see if one of them matches with your experience. Video Transcript Welcome to this video. Today, I want to talk to you about the triggers of IBS, or in some cases, these things can cause your IBS to kick up a notch. The first is if you have a very bad gut infection that seems to then trigger IBS, and you could have problems from then onwards. … [Read more...] about The Causes of IBS Plus Peanut Butter Banana Tarts
What are Fodmaps and Low Fodmap Hungarian Goulash
I've gone back to the basics and thought it was time to explain what Fodmaps are. The word Fodmap is an acronym for fermentable, oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. I've made a video explaining what they are and I have added a few statistics too. Video Transcript Welcome to this video. Today I want to explain what FODMAPs are and give you a few stats at the end of the video. FODMAPs is the letters of the word. F is fermentable for what goes on in the gut when the carbohydrates are broken down. The O is for oligosaccharides, which includes the galacto-oligosaccharides, which are the pulses and the legumes. The other oligosaccharides - the fructans - can be in wheat, barley and rye, onion and garlic, and so on. We're up to the D in FODMAPs, that's the disaccharides. That’s lactose, so obviously in milk, cream, and cheese. The M is for monosaccharides, and that’s the fructose which is in most vegetables and fruit. The FODMAPs, the A, is for and. The P at … [Read more...] about What are Fodmaps and Low Fodmap Hungarian Goulash
Tips for eating in a restaurant on the Low Fodmap Diet & Mini Savoury Muffins

We can see what fruit and vegetables are on our plate and we can avoid those that we can't eat, but the more invisible things like garlic and onion are what could be a problem for us. I advise you to choose your restaurant in advance, or if friends have suggested a restaurant, ring up the restaurant and have a chat with them. Soya Products on the Low Fodmap diet & Pesto Nibbles
Many are confused about the question of soya products on the low Fodmap diet because we can eat some and not others. It all depends on what part of the soya has been used in the production process. If you have irritable bowel syndrome, it is important to distinguish between them to reduce your IBS symptoms. Watch the video to find which ones are fine and which are not. Video Transcript Welcome to this video. Today, I'm going to talk about the role of soybeans in the low FODMAP diet. I get a lot of questions around soybeans and the different soy products. If the soybeans have been soaked, that's going to help the situation, because the FODMAPS in soybeans are water soluble. And as long as you drain away that water afterwards, a lot of the FODMAPS have already gone. Soybeans are an oligosaccharide, so they are a high FODMAP, so you do have to be wary of eating them as a whole bean. Soya Milk Now what about the different products that use soybeans, for example, soy milk? Soy … [Read more...] about Soya Products on the Low Fodmap diet & Pesto Nibbles
Sugars on a Low Fodmap Diet and Carrot Cake Muffins
Just because you are on a Low Fodmap diet for irritable bowel syndrome doesn’t mean you can’t eat any sugar. You do have to limit it however. This video tells you which sugars you can eat and which to avoid on the low Fodmap diet. Video Transcript Welcome to this video. Today I'm going to talk to you about the role of sugar in the Low FODMAP Diet. Now we can have sugar on the diet. I know that it's the carbohydrates that cause us a problem, but it's only if the fructose is in a higher amount than the glucose in the sugar that it's an issue for us. If they're in equal quantities, the glucose does something very interesting. It holds the hand of the fructose cell for cell and pulls it through the lining of the small intestine, which is exactly where we want the fructose to go. But if there's any excess fructose to the glucose, then that fructose continues on down into the large bowel and that's where it ferments and causes the IBS symptoms. Table Sugar So, normal table sugar … [Read more...] about Sugars on a Low Fodmap Diet and Carrot Cake Muffins
A Low Fodmap Cruise and Camembert biscuits
The Video I have shown you many photos of our lovely Baltic cruise but I didn't tell you the very best thing about the cruise, I explain what it was in the video. The Recipe Processed foods are always a bit dicey with irritable bowel syndrome so I am always experimenting with different baked goods including breads and crackers. This recipe started off as an attempt at a cracker but ended up as more of a biscuit. I wanted something with our usual glass of wine on a Friday night and I used what I had in the pantry. That doesn't always have a successful ending but these ones got the thumbs up from Adriano so I guess they pass muster. I think they would be best fresh and still a little warm and so could probably be re-heated later to restore them to their former glory but they were all eaten so I am not sure on that point. Just a word about chickpeas. We can have 1/4 cup of canned chickpeas on the low Fodmap diet so the amount of flour in each of the biscuits will be low Fodmap … [Read more...] about A Low Fodmap Cruise and Camembert biscuits
