Low Fodmap Drinks & Rosti Pizzas
On the low Fodmap diet for irritable bowel syndrome, we are rather restricted on what we can drink. But that's only in comparison with the wide range of drinks on offer. Once upon a time, people drank water, milk, tea, coffee, alcohol and some fresh juices. Today the supermarket can have aisles of different drinks of all colours, flavours and sizes with varying degrees of health benefits. And so that's what we now expect, but the low Fodmap diet cuts out a large percentage of those and that takes a degree of adjustment for some people. For the most part we are a lot better off because most of the drinks in those aisles are seriously detrimental to our health. Anyway, have a look at the video to see what you can drink. Video Transcript Welcome to this video. Today I'm going to talk to you about what drinks you can drink on the Low FODMAP Diet. Spicy Spring Rolls – Gluten-Free and Low Fodmap
I was thinking about what causes so many people to fail on the low Fodmap diet. As I wrote about in my last post, this is a complex diet and there can be many reasons for failure, like lack of knowledge, lack of willpower, lack of support and so on, but I see a few things over and over again. Not Being Prepared Unlike others, we can't nip out to a cafe to get some lunch in our break from work and grab a bread roll or a piece of quiche. It would be fatal. We must always have a supply of low Fodmap food with us at all times. It is crucial that we never get hungry because that's when we will slip up. Hunger is a powerful life force that exists for our survival, and what do we head for when we are hungry? Fatty, sugary food. That's what the body wants. Sugar for a quick fix and fat for the longer-lasting energy it gives us. Our bodies know what they are doing and this worked well in the past when everyone was active, and computers and desk jobs didn't exist. So the first thing we must … [Read more...] about Spicy Spring Rolls – Gluten-Free and Low Fodmap
Fish Pie – Low Fodmap & Gluten-Free
A Complex Diet I am super pleased to hear that more and more often healthcare practitioners are mentioning the low Fodmap diet to their patients with IBS but, almost right across the board, they don’t really know much about it and tell the patient to Google it for a list of allowed foods. So, the confused soul Googles the diet, picks up some probably obsolete list of allowed and banned foods to try it themselves. And they fail. They fail because the list is very likely to be inaccurate and also because this diet needs to come with a set of instructions and you won’t find that by Googling it. It is a complex diet and you need to understand how it all works to implement it safely and in such a way that you have positive results. All fruit and vegetables contain Fodmaps. Those on the allowed list contain a lower level of Fodmaps – that’s the only difference. So you think you can have a big salad of allowed vegetables – 1 carrot, ½ cup of zucchini, ¼ stick of celery, 2 radishes, 1 … [Read more...] about Fish Pie – Low Fodmap & Gluten-Free
Dinner Party Menu – gluten-free and low FODMAP
I have been working on my video for my new cookbook and it is taking a while but the filming is done. Now I have to put it all together and add in everything I want. It is such a steep learning curve but most of the filming has worked well. There's a lot of filming which has to come down to about 2 minutes so that's the fun part. It's strange how I am more nervous about this cookbook than I was about the last one. I have all sorts of defeatist thoughts. And talking of thoughts, do you obsess about wrongs done to you? How do you deal with painful thoughts, especially those that invade when you are having a quiet moment? I have written about this on my blog, Changing and it's called "Where do your thoughts go to when you are in the shower?". It includes a couple of solutions. Anyway, I am going to give you another dinner menu - just for you and your family, perhaps without the dessert or for a group of friends. Click on the title for the recipes. And before I get on with the menu, … [Read more...] about Dinner Party Menu – gluten-free and low FODMAP
